Imagine this...
You've finally decided to take the leap and build your website. The excitement of bringing your brand to life online is bubbling inside you. You envision a beautiful, functional site that not only looks stunning but also converts visitors into loyal customers.
But wait—what if I told you that you’re not quite ready to work with a web designer yet?
Before diving into the design process, there are several essential steps you need to take to ensure your website project is a success. Think of these steps as the foundation of a house. Without them, even the most beautiful design can crumble.
Let’s break down what you need to prepare:
🎨 Prepare brand guidelines: Have your brand guidelines ready or hire a brand designer to do it for you. This includes your logo, color palette, typography, and any other brand elements.
✒️ Prepare your copy or hire a copywriter: Clear, compelling content is key to engaging your audience. You can't make a good website with a lackluster copy.
✨ Collect inspo design: You can use Pinterest or do research on what design type you'd want for your website. This also helps your designer understand your vision.
📸 Collect brand images: Visuals play a huge role in your website’s appeal. Do a brand photoshoot or gather high-quality images especially for the About You page/section.
🌐 Choose a website platform: Decide on the website platform you want to use. For starters, consider Kajabi, WordPress, Wix, Squarespace, Systeme.io, GoHighLevel, etc. Do your research about which platform aligns best with your needs.
🔥 Purchase a domain and authenticate it: Get your domain and make sure it’s properly authenticated to your website. You are a legitimate business and having a domain would make your website more professional. Check with your web designer if domain authentication is included in their web design package.
✉️ Purchase a business email: If you’re building an email list, invest in a professional business email. Google and Yahoo implemented new email marketing authentication requirements in February 2024 so if you're sending bulk newsletters using a personal email address, you can end up in the spam box. I'm sure you wouldn't want that.
Of course, this is a given but include time, commitment, and effort to communicate with your web designer on the list too!
Having these elements prepared not only speeds up the process but also ensures you get the best results from your web designer.
